Salary Expectation

A skilled PHP developer can expect a yearly salary ranging from around £20k to as much as £40k in the South East of the UK, however the average salary in the UK for a php developer is around £30k.

Experience and Qualifications

Most employers will expect at least 5 years experience as well as either a general web development degree or a more specific qualification such as the Zend PHP Certificate. Candidates should have a firm grasp of OO object oriented programming patterns and be able to demonstrate this skill with examples of code.

In addition to specific PHP skills and experience most php jobs will require additional complimentary skills such as a full understanding of mark-up languages including HTML and XML, as well as skills and experience demonstrating a competence with the SQL structured query language and in particular MySQL. Further skills which will help improve a candidates chances of selection include knowledge of, and confidence in using regular expressions, linux operating system, apache web server as well as other web-server technologies.
