Salary Expectation

A skilled ASP developer can expect a yearly salary ranging from around £20k to as much as £40k in the South East of the UK, however the average salary in the UK for an ASP developer is around £30k.

Experience and Qualifications

The majority of employers will expect at least 5 years experience as well as either a general web development degree or a more specific qualification such as Microsoft Certification. Candidates should have a firm grasp of ASP's built-in objects as well as at least one of the scripting languages compatible with ASP and be able to demonstrate these skills with examples of code and previous projects. Most ASP developers write their code in VBScript, however knowledge of JScript and PerlScript is useful.

Aside from the specific ASP skills mentioned above most ASP positions will ask for at least some complimentary web developer skills fo example a full understanding of mark-up languages including XML and HTML, as well as database query language skills and experience, in particular Microsoft Sql Server. Further skills which will help improve a candidates chances of selection include knowledge of, and confidence in using regular expressions, Windows IIS - old and new versions, as well as other web-server technologies.
